Arjun Purewal

Arjun Purewal began his footballing journey at Darlington as a youth player before making the move into senior football at just 16 years of age, joining Northern League side Bishop Auckland. He played an integral role in helping the club secure their position in the league before moving on to Durham City, where he joined his brother Amar and competed in the Evo-Stik Premier League.

After two outstanding seasons at Durham City, Arjun earned a return to Darlington, joining the club during a significant period in its history. Following the club’s liquidation and subsequent reformation as Darlington 1883, Arjun made history by scoring the first-ever goal for the newly formed club.

Following his time at Darlington, Arjun went on to represent Whitby Town and Blyth Spartans before joining Consett AFC. It was at Consett where he established himself as a leader, captaining the club for an impressive seven years.

During his time as captain, Arjun played a pivotal role in the club’s success, including their memorable Durham Challenge Cup triumph. He also featured in the FA Vase Final at Wembley, where he had the unique experience of competing against his brother Amar on one of the biggest stages in non-league football.

A vastly experienced and respected figure within the North East footballing community, Arjun has built a career defined by consistency, leadership and commitment. He currently represents Bishop Auckland FC, where he continues to bring his experience and leadership to the team.

Amar Purewal

The tall striker joined The Hornets in June 2020 from Northern League rivals, West Auckland Town. Amar, an international with Panjab, came through the ranks of Newcastle United before stints with Newcastle Benfield and Bishop Auckland.

He was Durham City’s top scorer in the eighth tier in 2010/11, prior to joining Darlington in 2012 and again finishing top of the charts. Amar accumulated a total of 61 goals in 115 appearances for The Quakers but moved to Shildon for a stint in 2016.

The forward, who notched Hebburn’s first at Wembley in May 2021, made headlines after facing off against his twin brother Arjun in the Consett backline. Amar has a staggering 200+ non-league goals to his name!

The History Makers…

When the Purewal Twins faced off in the FA Vase Final in May 2021, they made history! They became the first twin brothers to play against each other in a final, as well as becoming the first south-Asian brothers to play in a final. The game itself made for thrilling viewing, with Amar’s Hebburn Town running out 3-2 winners against Arjun’s Consett, in a pulsating, end-to-end contest.
